Be SmartBoard Savvy!
Throughout this course so far, we have learned just how pertinent technology can be in the classrooms. The integration of SmartBoards in the classrooms in Mobile, AL has been a great tool to incorporate technology in many ways. As an observing student teacher this semester for a sixth grade mathematics class, I have seen the SmartBoard integrated by playing interactive games. Our math students' faces light up when they hear that we are going to play a game. I would like for you to add to this discussion by contributing interactive games that students can play in the classroom on the SmartBoard. For example, for added practice on adding fractions, our students played the Fruit Shoot game on the SmartBoard allowing them to work out the problems individually and then come up to the board and click on the moving fruit with the correct answer on it. Here is the link for that game:
Please add your own comments with links including the description and how the game would be played to help students learn interactively with technology.
Thanks!

10 Less Shootout:
ReplyDeleteThe students would "kick" the ball that shows 10 less than the goalie's shirt. The website is http://www.ictgames.com/football2.html. The students would use the smart-pen to click the ball that shows 10 less than the goalie's shirt. This is a great activity to help students learn to subtract by tens.
Thanks so much for sharing. I know students love sports and technology, so the mix of these two would certainly spark their interest!
DeleteAnother good SmartBoard activity is Jeapordy. In math, we use it by splitting the class into 2 teams and having the students use individual white boards to work out each problem. We go around the room having students pick the subject. For instance, Sally would call out, "Multiplying fractions for 300". As the students answer, one is picked to come and click on their answer. The students love playing this.

Since I teach kindergarten, the websites I'm contributing are for kindergarten.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.playkidsgames.com/games/seahorse/seahorse.htm is a fun game of counting and matching a numeral with the count. http://www.primarygames.com/math/fishycount/ is another great game for this same skill.

What good resources! I am anxious to become a teacher after graduating, and having all of this input will certainly be a wonderful aid for whichever grade I get!
DeleteA favorite in our room is Connect Four. I am able to make up the questions needing to be covered. It can be used for any subject and the children love it!

Wow! This is one I have not run across. I have been focusing on math since that is the class I am currently observing, but I am intrigued to discover more for all different subjects!
